A 20-year-old Nepalese student was tragically killed after being hit by a car speeding at more than double the limit on a residential road in east London. Now, award-winning rapper Ghetts has been sentenced to 12 years behind bars for the deadly collision.

Ghetts’ Dangerous Driving Kills Young Student

Justin Clarke-Samuel, 41, better known as Ghetts, pleaded guilty to causing Yubin Tamang’s death by dangerous driving. The Old Bailey heard how Ghetts was doing over 60mph in a 30mph zone on Redbridge Lane East, Ilford, when he struck Tamang on the evening of 18 October 2025.

Prosecutor Philip McGhee described the horror: “Tamang was catapulted into the air before crashing down on the roadway with catastrophic injuries.” The 20-year-old later died in hospital.

Reckless Driving Caught on CCTV

Judge Mark Lucraft KC slammed Ghetts’ driving as a “quite appalling litany of incidents.” CCTV footage revealed Ghetts ran six red lights, repeatedly crossed into oncoming traffic, mounted kerbs, and hit both a motorcyclist and a Mercedes before the fatal crash.

Ghetts was also more than one and a half times over the drink-drive limit, admitting to three glasses of brandy. After smashing into Tamang, Ghetts did not stop. An Uber driver stumbled upon the scene, initially mistaking the victim for a “bundle of clothes.”

Police matched damage on Ghetts’ BMW M5 to the crash site. His car was later found near his Woodford Green home with a smashed windscreen, bonnet, and front bumper.

Victim’s Family Devastated as Ghetts Faces Justice

“Justin Clarke-Samuel has stolen our son’s future and ours with it. We can never forgive him for what he has done.” – Tamang Family

Shani Taggart of the Crown Prosecution Service said Ghetts “knew he was in no fit state to drive.” The tragic case highlights the deadly consequences of drinking and driving.
