Surrey Police Face Backlash for Ramming Loose Cow in Staines-upon-Thames

Surrey Police have come under fire on social media following an incident where officers attempted to control a cow on the loose by ramming it with a police vehicle. The event, which took place yesterday evening in Staines-upon-Thames, was captured in a video that has since gone viral, sparking widespread outrage.

The footage shows the cow being hit by the police car, thrown forward, and then hit again as the vehicle advances. Surrey Police issued a statement explaining that they received reports of the cow causing traffic disruptions at around 20.55 on June 14. Efforts to secure the animal resulted in it becoming “increasingly distressed and injured.” The cow is now contained within a local park, with officers and a vet in attendance.

Chief Inspector Adam Tatton addressed the community’s concerns, emphasising public safety as the department’s top priority and expressing commitment to resolving the situation responsibly.

Despite these reassurances, many on social media are questioning whether there were less distressing methods available to handle the situation. The incident has sparked a debate about animal welfare and police response tactics.
