Two men have been locked up for a combined 60 years after a savage attempted murder in Doncaster. The pair shot and stabbed their victim, then tried to stash the gun in a rabbit hutch – but cops tracked them down swiftly.
Savage Attack on Abbott Street
Jarvis Shields, 23, and Tony Reckless, 46, were convicted in November for the horrifying 2024 attack on Abbott Street, Hexthorpe. The victim was left fighting for his life, suffering serious chest and leg wounds after being both shot and stabbed.
South Yorkshire Police got the call just after 11pm on 17 October 2024, reporting a man seriously injured in the street. CCTV footage showed two men leaving a Ford Focus on Hexthorpe Road right before the attack.
Evidence Found in Rabbit Hutch
Reckless was arrested mere hours later when officers stopped the car in Bentley. A search of his linked property uncovered the firearm hidden inside a rabbit hutch in the garden, along with blood-stained clothes matching both Reckless and the victim.
Ballistics confirmed the gun was the weapon used in the shooting. Phone data also revealed that Shields used a mobile to contact the victim just minutes before the crime.
Shields Caught on Camera Pulling the Trigger
Further CCTV showed Shields firing the weapon, trying to reload, dropping ammo, then firing twice more, causing near-fatal injuries to the victim.
Both men, with no fixed address, faced Sheffield Crown Court on 27 February. Each was sentenced to 30 years behind bars.
A third person, Lisa Nixon, was acquitted of attempted murder and firearm possession in November 2025.
