Dangerous criminals who threaten Britain’s security will now face longer prison sentences under new law coming into force today.

No Early Release Without Parole Board Approval

Offenders convicted of national security crimes—including espionage, sabotage, and foreign interference—will no longer be automatically released early. Instead, they must undergo a rigorous risk assessment from the Parole Board before any chance of parole.

Serving Two-Thirds of Sentence and Strict Post-Release Controls

These criminals must serve at least two-thirds of their sentence behind bars. Upon release, they will face strict supervision, including electronic tagging, until the end of their sentence plus an additional year.
