Asda Recalls George Stitch and Angel Children’s Set Over Drawstring Hazard

Supermarket giant Asda has issued an urgent recall of its George Stitch and Angel 2-piece set due to a dangerous manufacturing defect. The recall, announced on May 16, applies to all sizes (1 to 8 years) and highlights the critical importance of child safety in clothing design.

The issue? An overly long drawstring in the shorts component of the set — a defect that could pose serious risks of injury, including entanglement or strangulation. The top in the set has not been affected.

Why This Matters: Drawstring Dangers

According to RoSPA and the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS), drawstrings in children’s clothing are a known hazard. They can catch on furniture or playground equipment, leading to falls or even suffocation.

“Drawstring injuries are entirely preventable,” says a RoSPA spokesperson. “We commend retailers who act swiftly, like Asda has.”
