Channel 4, in collaboration with eBay, has announced an exciting new series set to premiere later this year. Produced by Plum Pictures and Imhotep Productions, the 4 part show will feature rapper Tinie and F1 analyst and stunt driver Naomi Schiff exploring the resurgence of cars from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Models like the Ford Sierra Cosworth, Peugeot 205 GTI, and Citroen Saxo, which were once everyday vehicles, are now coveted by enthusiasts and fetching high prices at auctions. Tinie and Naomi have dubbed them ‘Bangers.’
Each episode will focus on a different car category, including hatchbacks, sports cars, 4x4s, and family cars. The hosts will engage in a friendly competition called the ‘Battle of the Bangers,’ where they will determine the best car in each class. With the assistance of car enthusiasts across the UK, Tinie and Naomi will explore the performance, history, culture, and iconic status of each vehicle. The series will culminate in a final challenge to determine the ultimate winner.
Naomi Schiff, a former racing driver and current motorsport broadcaster, brings her expertise to the show, while Tinie’s passion for cars began when he purchased his first vehicle, a Vauxhall Corsa, at the age of 17. He is also an avid Formula 1 fan. Naomi will have the first pick of the cars, and each week Tinie will choose a vehicle to compete against her. He will meet passionate car owners who will try to convince him to champion their models. Viewers will witness the cars in action as Tinie takes on thrilling challenges like navigating a 6-wheel Defender through the streets of Chelsea and attempting to restore the reputation of the Renault Espace.
In addition to the car-focused content, Tinie will also interview celebrities, discussing their personal experiences with cars, from their first vehicle to memorable moments behind the wheel. He will surprise them with forgotten models and old photos, igniting nostalgia and laughter.
“Bangers: Cars of the People” is a celebration of the music, fashion, news, and celebrity connections evoked by our cars, both past and present. Tinie expressed his excitement about exploring the origins of iconic cars and their influence on British culture. Naomi, known for her competitive spirit, looks forward to delving deeper into what made these cars so legendary.
Channel 4 Commissioning Editor Nicole Streak believes the series will provide a nostalgic yet entertaining experience for viewers, as cars have a universal connection and evoke cherished memories.
Plum Pictures, the production company behind the show, is thrilled to collaborate with Tinie and Naomi, describing them as passionate, brilliant, and fiercely competitive car enthusiasts. The resurgence of classic cars among a new generation of owners serves as an opportunity to explore the music and style associated with these iconic vehicles.
eBay is the series’ partner, reflecting their commitment to keeping cars on the road affordably and sustainably. As the UK’s largest marketplace for car parts and accessories, eBay sees the show as an opportunity to encourage a new generation of car owners to appreciate and celebrate the enduring appeal of these remarkable vehicles.
