Kent Police crisis negotiators have received vital support from the charity Rapid Relief Team (RRT), which donated 50 snack packs to assist officers during challenging incidents involving individuals in crisis.
Assisting Those in Need
The crisis negotiator team, comprising 24 volunteer officers, responds to approximately two to three incidents weekly. These situations often involve individuals experiencing severe personal difficulties and at risk of harm.
Negotiations can last for several hours, during which providing food and water becomes essential to building rapport and offering support.
Building Trust and Offering Comfort
Superintendent Nick Sparkes emphasized the importance of this aid:
“The negotiator team responds to an average of two to three incidents a week. Their role is to save lives and help those in crisis by listening and gaining their confidence. It’s about showing empathy and compassion, providing support, and helping the most vulnerable in our communities.”
He added:
“We are grateful to the charity, Rapid Relief Team, for their assistance. These packs will provide comfort and sustenance for individuals at a very difficult time for them, while we help them find a way forward.”
