A major security operation at Dover Port has led to the seizure of 20 firearms, 320 rounds of ammunition, and over £4.5 million worth of illegal drugs, according to the National Crime Agency (NCA).
The illegal haul was discovered by Border Force officers on Monday, 23 June, during a routine inspection of a Lithuanian-registered HGV. The vehicle was carrying 170kg of ketamine and more than 4,000 MDMA pills, in addition to the arsenal of firearms and ammunition.
Dangerous Goods Bound for UK Streets
Investigators estimate the street value of the ketamine at around £4.5 million, while the MDMA pills are worth an additional £40,000. The firearms, believed to be viable pistols, are undergoing further testing by NCA experts.
The driver, a 34-year-old man from Tajikistan, was arrested on suspicion of smuggling prohibited items. He has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.

With thanks to our Border Force colleagues, an arsenal of deadly firearms, as well as harmful drugs, have been seized before they could reach the criminal supply chain. Our investigation to trace and detain the individuals responsible is ongoing.

This is a significant seizure which demonstrates the vital work our officers do every day to keep lethal weapons and dangerous drugs off our streets. The firearms and drugs intercepted could have caused untold damage to our communities if they had reached their intended destination.
Authorities confirm that international enquiries are ongoing, and the NCA continues to work closely with foreign agencies to disrupt cross-border organised crime.
