With England’s much-anticipated campaign in the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand just around the corner, Millie Bright, the talented defender, has spoken of her immense pride in leading the Lionesses as the team’s captain. The 29-year-old footballer was appointed as captain by head coach Sarina Wiegman, stepping into the role following an injury to regular skipper Leah Williamson.
As England prepares to kick off their campaign against Haiti in their first group game on Saturday, Bright expressed her gratitude for the privilege of wearing the captain’s armband on the world stage. Reflecting on her role, she stated, “It’s a massive, massive honour and I don’t think it gets much bigger than captaining your country, especially at a World Cup.”
