Russian Drone Attack Leaves One Dead and Four Injured in Kyiv – UKNIP

In the midst of escalating tensions, Ukrainian air defence units engaged in a fierce battle against Russian drone attacks for the third consecutive night, resulting in one fatality and four individuals wounded in and around Kyiv. According to Yuriy Ignat, Ukraine’s air force spokesperson, the country’s air defence successfully shot down 20 Russian attack drones and two cruise missiles during the early hours of Thursday morning.

“We have carried out a successful air defence operation,” Ignat stated. “All twenty Shahid drones were destroyed, and two Kalibr cruise missiles were also neutralized.”

Emergency services were dispatched to multiple districts in the capital city, including Solomyanskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, Podilskyi, and Darnytskyi, in response to reports of explosions. Kyiv’s Mayor, Vitali Klitschko, confirmed the discovery of a deceased individual in the Podilskyi district following firefighting efforts in an apartment building.

“In the Podilskyi district, during the firefighting operation, the body of one deceased person was found,” Klitschko shared on the Telegram messaging app.

Kyiv’s military administration reported that falling debris from the downed Russian drones struck the Solomyanskyi district in the city centre, resulting in at least two injuries. A photograph shared on the official Telegram channel of the Kyiv military administration displayed a room in a high-rise building with a partially demolished wall.

Klitschko also disclosed that material from the downed Russian drones caused damage to a residential building in the Darnytskyi district and sparked a balcony fire in the Shevchenkivskyi district.

Describing the assault as a “mass attack,” Serhiy Popko, the head of Kyiv’s military administration, revealed that Iranian-made Shahed drones approached from multiple directions. Popko reported two additional injuries in the Darnytskyi district due to falling debris.

“This night, Russian terrorists once again launched a mass attack. The enemy targeted the Kyiv region with drones and missiles. The air alert lasted for over three hours,” stated Ruslan Kravchenko, the governor of the Kyiv region, via Telegram.

Explosions were also reported in other regions of Ukraine, including Khmelnytskyi in the west, Mykolaiv in the south, and Zaporizhia in the southeast. In Mykolaiv, a Kalibr missile and several drones were successfully shot down, but a school and approximately ten private houses sustained damage from the falling debris, as confirmed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s office. No immediate reports of casualties or damage were received from other regions.

Prior to this latest incident, Ukraine’s air defences had already intercepted 11 out of at least 15 Iranian-made Shahed drones launched by Russia against Kyiv and other targets in the early hours of Wednesday. Furthermore, Russia conducted air raids on Kyiv and various locations on Tuesday, deploying a total of 28 Shahed drones, of which Ukraine claims to have destroyed 26.

These three nights of intense aerial assaults by Russia coincided with a NATO summit in Lithuania, attended by world leaders and Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy. While Ukraine did not secure a specific timeline for its NATO membership, Zelenskyy expressed that the summit’s outcome would establish “a foundation of security” for Ukraine, marking a significant development since the country gained independence.
