Charlie Gard was born on 4th August 2016 perfectly healthy. However at just 8-weeks-old he was diagnosed with a devastating disease called mitochondrial depletion syndrome. There is no known cure, however there is a doctor in America who is trialing a pioneering new treatment called nucleoside bypass therapy, which has shown amazing results in patients with a very similar disease. After a huge media campaign, £1.3 million was raised to treat Charlie in America. HOWEVER, on 11th April a high court judge ruled that Charlie’s parents be stripped of their parental rights, Charlie will be refused all treatment, and must be allowed to die!
