Police launch probe after dramatic incident in Emsworth leaves two injured

Van dispute sparks chaos on New Brighton Road

A 28-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man were hurt in a strange and violent episode on Sunday 13 August. It all kicked off around 5pm when a man driving a white Vauxhall Vivaro panel van got into a dispute with the woman on New Brighton Road.

The van then struck the woman, leaving her with minor injuries. But that wasn’t the end of the drama.

Van crashes into pedestrian before fleeing

As the van sped off, it smashed into a 28-year-old pedestrian near the junction with Victoria Road. The man suffered cuts, bruises, and a fractured finger. He had to be treated in hospital.

Arrest made but suspect released

A 24-year-old man from Emsworth was arrested on suspicion of two offences of attempted murder. However, he has since been released without charge but remains under investigation as police continue their enquiries.

Police plea for witnesses and footage

“I’m keen to hear from anyone in the area who saw what happened,” said investigating officer DC Samuel Jones. “Our enquiries suggest there were a number of witnesses and mobile phone camera footage may exist which could help our investigation. If you can help please call 101.”
