Isle of Wight Fire Crews tackle undergrowth beach arson by teenagers

Fire crews from the Isle of Wight Fire and rescue service at tackling an undergrowth fire at Shanklin esplanade this evening (Saturday). Retained firefighters stationed at Sandown and Ventnor have been mobilised to cliffs on the Esplanade on Shanklin beach, flames are raging through undergrowth crews are using a portable pump to pull water from the sea to extinguish the flames and stop it from spreading. Concerns members of the public contacted the fire service after youths with gas canisters were seen lighting fires just after 5.30pm on Saturday afternoon. An investigation has been launch by the service who will be liaising with Hampshire Constabulary
