Boat Smuggler Busted in Devon for Ferrying Migrants from France
The National Crime Agency swooped on a 57-year-old man yesterday morning (6 December) in Lydford. He’s accused of using a pleasure craft to smuggle at least ten migrants across the Channel from Normandy.
Migrant Drop-Off at Slapton Sands Sparks Investigation
The incident dates back to 15 June when people were spotted fleeing a boat as it moored at Slapton Sands in Devon, before scrambling into waiting cars. The man was quickly taken into custody and questioned by officers.
NCA Warns of Dangers Behind Migrant Smuggling
NCA Branch Commander Matt Rivers warned, “While transporting people in a larger boat may appear safer, it remains extremely dangerous to be making any unauthorised journey in the Channel. People smugglers pay no regard to the lives of the people they are transporting.”
“Tackling organised immigration crime is a key priority for the NCA and we work to target and disrupt organised crime groups involved at each step of the route.”
