Tech Guru Nick Hungerford Dies at 43 After Terminal Cancer Battle

Nick Hungerford, the fintech whizz and founder of the charity Elizabeth’s Smile, has passed away aged just 43. The tech entrepreneur’s fight against terminal bone cancer inspired him to create support for bereaved children – a legacy set to live on through his charity.

From Nutmeg’s Rejection to £700m Buyout

Nick co-founded Nutmeg, the investment platform, back in 2011. Despite being turned down 45 times, he pushed on. His grit paid off when JP Morgan snapped up Nutmeg for a staggering £700 million in 2021. His name was well known as one of Britain’s top fintech talents.

Rare Bone Cancer Cut Life Short

In 2019, Hungerford was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma, a rare bone cancer, after painful symptoms in his thigh. He had surgery to remove his femur but hit heartbreak when the cancer returned in late 2021. Just weeks ago, he told The Telegraph he only had months left to live.

Charity Inspired by Daughter Keeps His Spirit Alive

Despite grim odds, Nick poured his energy into Elizabeth’s Smile, named after his two-year-old daughter. The charity aims to shed light on how losing a parent affects children emotionally, partnering with global experts to back vital research.

  • Elizabeth’s Smile has created a book series to help families support bereaved kids.
  • Plans are underway to launch the Smile Network – a support system keeping children connected and cared for.

Nick even set up an AI-driven website where videos of him answer personal questions, ensuring his daughter can keep hearing his voice and wisdom long after he’s gone. He left behind photos and stories to keep their bond unbreakable.

Elizabeth’s Smile expressed deep sorrow at his passing but vowed his smile would continue to inspire and comfort families facing loss.
