Second Man Jailed for Brutal East London Murder

Dean Adams, 33, has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 29-and-a-half years for the savage murder of 20-year-old Otas Sarkus in Plaistow. The Old Bailey handed down the sentence on August 9, following his conviction for Otas’s murder and the attempted murder of another man in a chilling drive-by shooting on August 18, 2021.

Drive-By Shooting Shocks Upton Park

Otas and friends were standing on Raymond Road near Upton Park Station when a white Volvo SUV roared towards them, crashing into parked cars. As they tried to flee, shots blasted through the window. Otas was shot twice in the eye and later died in hospital. An 18-year-old victim was also wounded in the back but survived.

Cold-Blooded Plot Unravelled by Police

  • Dean Adams and co-defendant Deon Brisport, 30, were caught in a meticulous police probe using CCTV and forensic evidence.
  • Brisport was earlier sentenced to life with a minimum of 32 years in June.
  • The Volvo was later found abandoned and torched to hide the evidence.
  • Forensics found gunshot residue by a rear window and Adams’s DNA on a jacket inside the car.
  • CCTV captured Adams and Brisport returning together to collect the vehicle.
  • Three pay-as-you-go phones were used to arrange minicabs, aiding the killers’ escape.

Detective Slams Callous Attack

“I can only hope that seeing those responsible held to account in a court of law brings them some solace,” said Detective Inspector Louise Caveen from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command. “There can be no doubt that Adams and Brisport went out on that night to intentionally kill or seriously injure someone and had gone to some lengths to hide their involvement.”

This cold-blooded crime stunned local residents. But police’s relentless investigation smashed every attempt by the killers to dodge justice. Both men now face decades behind bars for a brutal act that destroyed a young life.
