Ukrainian tank crews master mighty British Challenger 2s before heading back to the frontline

Elite Training Complete

Ukrainian tank crews have finished their intense training on the UK’s formidable Challenger 2 tanks and returned home to take the fight to Russia. This follows the UK’s January pledge to supply Ukraine with 14 Challenger 2s, plus ammunition and spare parts.

British military experts spent weeks drilling Ukrainian crews in tank command, driving, teamwork, and deadly target engagement. The Challenger 2 gives Ukraine’s forces a giant leap in firepower and protection, boasting one of the most advanced gunnery systems on the planet.

Exclusive Behind-the-Scenes Documentary Released

To celebrate the milestone, the UK Ministry of Defence has dropped a 30-minute YouTube documentary revealing rare footage of the training in action. It offers a gripping inside look at how the Ukrainian soldiers are being armed for the brutal battles ahead.

Top Brass and Tankers Speak Out

Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said: “It is truly inspiring to witness the determination of Ukrainian soldiers having completed their training on British Challenger 2 tanks on British soil. They return to their homeland better equipped, but to no less danger. We will continue to stand by them and do all we can to support Ukraine for as long as it takes.”

Lieutenant Colonel John Stone, who led the training mission, added: “It has been a privilege for the Combat Manoeuvre Centre team to deliver this training to our Ukrainian partners. We have all been hugely impressed with the level of competence displayed and have no doubt that our friends will use the Challenger 2 tanks most effectively in the battles to come.”

A Ukrainian tank commander featured in the film said: “I fight for my future, for the future of my country and for my family. We will fight. This tank is like a diamond to us – the best tank in the world.”

Strong Support from the UK and Allies

The UK continues to bolster Ukraine’s defences with top-tier military kit, including anti-tank weapons, armoured vehicles, and air defence systems. Support from the international community remains rock solid since Russia launched its full-scale invasion on 24 February 2022.

Now, with Challenger 2s ready to roll in Ukrainian hands, Kyiv’s forces are better equipped than ever to push back against Russia’s illegal and unprovoked aggression.
