Firefighters rushed to a huge blaze at a farm in Alvaston this afternoon, but sadly, several turkeys didn’t make it out alive.
Massive Blaze Hits Turkey Shed
At 4:04pm on 19 April 2026, Cheshire firefighters were called to a fire at a sprawling turkey barn in Peach Lane. The shed, about 60 metres by 25 metres, suffered severe fire damage. Fire crews remain at the scene battling the flames.
Firefighters Fight Fire With High-Tech Gear
Cheshire Fire and Rescue confirmed they have surrounded the blaze, using breathing apparatus, hose reel jets, and main jets to control the fire. The HRU (High Reach Extendable Turret) is piercing the roof to douse the interior with water.
Fire Response and Devastation
- Seven fire engines are currently at the scene
- Four firefighters in breathing gear are tackling the fire from outside
- Deploying aerial ladder platform and ‘Scorpion’ HRU for high-volume water jets
- Fire engines from Nantwich, Crewe (two), Middlewich, Alsager, Tarporley, Winsford, Chester, and Sandyford (Staffordshire) all responding
“Sadly, several turkeys have perished within the affected barn,” fire officials revealed. Crews expect to stay for some time to extinguish the fire and secure the area fully.
