Tragic Baby Death After Bamber Bridge Hit-and-Run
A baby boy has died after a pregnant woman was critically injured in a shocking hit-and-run in Bamber Bridge, Lancashire. The woman, in her 30s, was hit while crossing a zebra crossing on Sunday evening around 8 pm. Despite emergency surgery to deliver the baby, the infant did not survive. The mother remains in critical condition.
Driver Flees the Scene
The crash happened on Station Road when a dark grey Toyota Prius, registration FY62 MXC, struck the woman and sped off. Lancashire Police are urgently appealing for witnesses who saw the vehicle before or after the collision to come forward.
Police Hunt Ongoing, Multiple Arrests Made
Detective Chief Inspector Jill Riley called the incident “absolutely appalling.” She said,
“This has resulted in the death of a little baby and has left his mother very poorly in hospital. Our investigation is making good progress, but we need any footage or information to help piece together what happened.”
So far, three men—two teens aged 16 and 17 and a 53-year-old man, all from Bamber Bridge—have been arrested and bailed. In addition, a 17-year-old girl from Lostock Hall, a 19-year-old man from Bolton, and a 40-year-old Blackburn man were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and attempting to pervert the course of justice. They remain in custody.
Community in Shock, Police Urge Help
Lancashire Police confirmed the victim was pregnant at the time and that the baby died later in hospital following emergency surgery. The hit-and-run has left the local community devastated.
Authorities are urging anyone with CCTV, dashcam, Ring doorbell, or mobile phone footage to contact police on 101 with reference FY62 MXC. The hunt continues to bring those responsible to justice.
