Man Sets Himself Alight During Domestic Disturbance in North London

A man set himself alight during a police response to a domestic disturbance in North Road, N7, on the morning of Friday, December 13, 2024.

Police were called at approximately 9:25 AM to reports of a domestic incident at a residential address. Upon arrival, officers encountered a man in the street who proceeded to set himself on fire.

Swift Response Saves Life

Officers, with the assistance of members of the public, quickly extinguished the flames. The London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade also attended the scene.

The man was transported to the hospital for treatment. Authorities have confirmed that his injuries are not life-threatening or life-changing. His next of kin have been informed.

Officer Sustains Minor Injuries

A police officer who assisted in extinguishing the flames sustained minor burns and was treated at the hospital. The officer has since been discharged.

Investigation Underway

Due to police presence at the time of the incident, the Metropolitan Police’s Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed, and a mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

A spokesperson for the Met Police stated:
“We are cooperating fully with the IOPC as part of the standard protocol in such circumstances.”
