Man Sets Himself on Fire During Police Call-Out in North London
Shock Blaze on North Road
A shocking scene unfolded on North Road, N7, just after 9.25am on Friday, December 13, 2024. Police attending a reported domestic disturbance were met by a man who suddenly set himself on fire in the street.
Quick-Thinking Saves Life
Officers, backed by brave bystanders, sprang into action and quickly doused the flames. Emergency crews from the London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade raced to the scene. The man was rushed to hospital, where medics confirmed his injuries were thankfully not life-threatening or life-changing. His family have been informed.
Officer Hurt in Dramatic Rescue
One police officer helping to put out the fire suffered minor burns. The officer received hospital treatment and has since been discharged.

The Metropolitan Police’s Directorate of Professional Standards has been notified, with a compulsory referral made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). A Met Police spokesperson said:
“We are cooperating fully with the IOPC as part of the standard protocol in such circumstances.”
