Tragedy struck on the A299 London-bound when 22-year-old footballer Marshall Spelzini died after the van he was riding in smashed into a stationary road sweeper near St Nicholas-at-Wade.

The crash happened at 6:49 PM on Tuesday, 26 February. A white Fiat Ducato van collided with a parked road sweeper, believed to have broken down before the impact. Marshall, a passenger in the van, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Marshall was a promising talent who played for Cinque Ports FC. He had also been part of Dover Rangers FC, Deal Town Rangers, and Dover Town Wanderers, making waves in the local football scene.
