Thameslink services between Elephant & Castle and Bromley South resumed today after a blazing train fire at Peckham Rye station sparked major delays. The fire broke out just before 3pm on Wednesday, 21 May, bringing the busy rail stretch to a halt.

- 3:30pm – 4:30pm: Lines slowly reopened but delays lingered.
- 5:07pm: National Rail confirmed Thameslink services were back to normal.

Southern trains at Peckham Rye carried on unhindered from separate platforms.
Meanwhile, services were rerouted to keep London moving:
- London Victoria to Dartford trains went via London Cannon Street.
- Gillingham-bound trains sped through via Herne Hill, skipping stops.
- Sevenoaks trains diverted via Beckenham Junction.
Firefighters quash blaze, no injuries
Emergency crews extinguished the fire quickly and specialist teams inspected the train before giving the all-clear. Luckily, no one was hurt.
The cause of the fire remains a mystery. An internal investigation is underway.
