Teen Stabbed in Southampton: Police Make Arrest

A boy suffered a suspected knife wound to his leg during an assault in Hinkler Green between 8pm and 9.15pm. Thankfully, his injury is not life-threatening.

Police have arrested a 16-year-old boy from Southampton on suspicion of Section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent. He is currently in custody.

Stop and Search Powers Rolled Out in Thornhill

In response, police used Section 60 powers under the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 to carry out additional stop and searches across Thornhill and surrounding areas. These emergency powers were active from 12pm Sunday until 11.45am Monday, July 17.

Officers patrolled the streets and stopped several teenagers: two 16-year-olds on Montague Avenue, two 15-year-olds on Farringford Road, and two 17-year-olds on Peartree Avenue. No weapons were found.

Southampton Police Vow to Tackle Knife Crime

“We know Southampton residents are concerned after this and other recent violent reports,” said Superintendent Phil Lamb. “This level of violence won’t be tolerated. We are working round the clock with partners to crack down on it.”

“After the attack, officers launched house-to-house inquiries, gathered Ring Doorbell footage, and spoke to witnesses. We’re also liaising with local businesses and bus companies for CCTV, plus using dog units to aid forensics.”

Superintendent Lamb added that police presence in the area will continue and that Section 60 powers can be reintroduced if needed. “We want the public to speak to officers with any concerns. Our visible operations send a clear message: weapons won’t be tolerated.”

Police Call on Parents and Public to Help Fight Violence

“Most recent incidents involve young people,” Lamb noted. “We urge parents and carers to help us tackle this.” He highlighted local support hubs at Cutbush Lane, Byron Road, and Foxcott Close.

“You are our eyes and ears. Report any suspicions via 101 or the police website. You can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. In emergencies, dial 999.”
