Man charged with breach of licence over terror offences
Man who spent his student loan and educational grants when he was a teenager on travelling to join Islamic State has today, Monday, 2 December, been charged following an investigation by the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command (CTC). Yayha Rashid, 23 of north London, was charged with two offences contrary to the Counter Terrorism Act 2008 and he is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court later today. On Sunday, 1 December, officers from the CTC arrested a 23-year-old man in north London on suspicion of breaching notification requirements under the Counter Terrorism Act 2008. He was detained under PACE and taken to a south London police station where he was subsequently charged with two counts of failing, without reasonable excuse, to notify police of relevant contact details (namely a phone number and email address), contrary to sections 48 and 54 of the Counter Terrorism Act, 2008. This arrest is not connected with the London Bridge terror attack and enquiries into this matter were underway prior to the incident on 29 November.
