On Wednesday 20 April 2022, officers from Border Force checked the vehicle in Folkestone and spoke to the three occupants who were planning to leave the country.

All three denied having any money on them but, following a search of the vehicle, two handbags were found to contain around £100,000 which had been sewn into their linings. Two women were also searched and a further £36,000 was found on each of them.

The matter was handed over to Kent Police and the women, aged 27 and 47, were detained on suspicion of concealing criminal property. A man, aged 28, was also arrested on suspicion of money laundering.

All three have since been released from custody pending further investigation.
