£200,000 Hidden in Handbags Seized at Folkestone Border

Border Force officers made a shocking discovery at Folkestone on Wednesday, 20 April 2022. Three travellers, caught trying to leave the country, claimed they had no money on them. But a deeper search told a different story.

Cash Sewn into Linings

After searching their vehicle, officers found two handbags stuffed with around £100,000, cleverly sewn into the lining. That wasn’t all — two of the travellers were also searched individually, revealing an additional £36,000 each on their persons.

Arrests Made Over Suspected Money Laundering

The women, aged 27 and 47, were detained on suspicion of concealing criminal property, while a 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of money laundering.

Released but Under Investigation

All three suspects have since been released from custody but remain under investigation as authorities dig deeper into the origins of the hefty cash haul.
