Armed officers from Dorset Police have placed a street in lockdown following a shooting near to the Castlepoint Cooperative supermarket this evening. Paramedics from the South Western Ambulance and a rapid response officer have also been sent to the incident that happened around 8pm on Tuesday evening. A large area remains sealed off with cordon tape and a Police officer standing guard. A black Mercedes remains abandoned in the middle of the road with tyres shot out. One man has been detained by armed officers wearing headgear. Witnesses described the vehicle failing to stop after armed officers were pursuing the vehicle it is understood. Following a serious assault:Officers were called to Wimborne Road in Kinson around 7.07pm following a call from the ambulance service on the 3rd August. A 24-year-old Bournemouth man had been assaulted by another man, believed to be known to him, He was treated for stab wounds to his hand, head and back. Witnesses have said I heard several bangs. At first, I thought it was some sort of exercise. Then there were people in balaclavas and with guns. They were shouting ‘stop’ at the car, but it didn’t stop and kept going. It also believes a police officer may have been stabbed trying to stop the car earlier in the evening. Dorset police said:At 8.26pm on Tuesday 7 August 2018, armed officers stopped a vehicle containing three people along Castle Lane West in Bournemouth. This was in relation to an ongoing investigation into a reported serious assault in Wimborne Road on Thursday 2 August. During the incident, police discharged a firearm. One man from the vehicle sustained a gunshot wound to the arm and was taken to hospital for treatment. His condition is not believed to be life-threatening. A second man from the vehicle – a 36-year-old – was arrested by officers at the scene. A woman was also in the vehicle. Neither suffered any injuries. A cordon has been put in place. As is normal in such circumstances the matter has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct which is responsible for investigating the circumstances.
