Tragedy struck off the Sussex coast as rescuers recovered the body of a man who plunged into the English Channel after falling overboard from a yacht.
Desperate Search Ends in Tragedy
Emergency services were scrambled at 10:20am after a female passenger alerted authorities that a man had fallen into the water near the Rampion wind farm off Brighton.
Sussex Police confirmed that coastguards found and recovered a body from the sea. The man’s family have been informed, and investigations are ongoing.
Massive Rescue Effort Involving Lifeboats and Helicopters
The RNLI deployed lifeboats from both Newhaven and Shoreham to help in the search. They were joined by a HM Coastguard helicopter, a fixed-wing aircraft, and two boats nearby.
A police spokesperson said: “At 11.40am on Sunday, police were informed by HM Coastguard that a man had been reported as having fallen overboard from a vessel off the coast of Newhaven. A search led by the Coastguard was carried out, and a body was recovered from the sea. The man has been identified and his next of kin have been informed.”
Vessel Towed Ashore Amid Ongoing Investigation
The yacht involved was towed to shore while police and emergency services continue their inquiries into the incident.
