Shockwaves hit Bondi, Australia, with a deadly shooting claiming 16 lives and leaving 40 injured. Police have confirmed the shooters were a father and son duo — a 50-year-old man and his 24-year-old son. The elder was gunned down at the scene.

British Rabbi Among Victims

A British-born rabbi was among those killed during the attack at a Hanukkah event attended by over 1,000 people. Rabbi Eli Schlanger, 41, a devoted father of five, was remembered as “vivacious, energetic, full of life, and a very warm, outgoing person who loved to help people,” said his cousin, Rabbi Zalman Lewis from Brighton.

UK Police Step Up Security for Jewish Communities

In response to the Bondi horror, UK police forces are boosting patrols in Jewish areas. The Metropolitan Police stated there is “no information to suggest any link” between the Bondi shooting and London’s current threat level, but confirmed “additional community patrols” and engagement with the Jewish community are underway. Police Scotland also said it is “actively communicating with faith leaders” following the incident.
