Man Found with Knife and Cannabis After Vandalism Report Outside Brighton Church

A man has been detained by police after allegedly using a knife to vandalise the exterior of Trinity Church on Trinity Street, %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_0%%, sparking concern among members of the public.

The incident unfolded at around 6.40pm on Sunday, 6 July, when officers were called to reports of a man using a knife to cause criminal damage outside the church building.

%%UKNIP_ANCHOR_1%% confirmed in a statement to UKNIP:

"Officers attended Trinity Street, Brighton at around 6.40pm on Sunday (6 July) following a report of a knife being used to commit criminal damage outside a church."

A 45-year-old man was detained at the scene and searched by police. Officers also found the man in possession of cannabis.

The man was not arrested but was instead issued with a community resolution, a formal non-court alternative used to deal with low-level offences where the individual accepts responsibility and agrees to reparative action.

No injuries were reported in the incident, and no further action is being taken at this stage.

The Trinity Church community has not issued a statement but is believed to be cooperating with the investigation.

Residents and local churchgoers expressed relief that the incident was quickly brought under control.
