Christmas Eve Panic: Shooting in Puerto Banus Leaves One Injured

A man has been injured in a broad-daylight shooting in Puerto Banus, the upscale Costa del Sol resort, sparking panic among holidaymakers and last-minute Christmas shoppers.

The incident occurred shortly after 11 a.m. near a chemist by the Cristamar shopping mall. Witnesses reported two gunmen firing several bullets before fleeing the scene in a white getaway car. The victim, described locally as a German man of Arabic origin, was struck in the leg by a bullet. He sought refuge inside the mall and was treated by emergency services before being stretchered away to a hospital.

Police confirmed that the victim was stabilised at the scene, and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. As of now, no arrests have been reported, and an investigation is underway.

Community in Shock

The shooting caused chaos in the typically bustling port area, known for its luxury yachts and high-end boutiques. Shoppers and tourists were seen fleeing in panic as the gunmen opened fire.

This incident adds to a series of shootings in Marbella and Puerto Banus earlier this year, prompting authorities to launch the ‘Marbella Plan’ in April. The initiative, aimed at ensuring the safety of British and Irish tourists, included increased police patrols and operations targeting criminal activity at popular beach clubs like the Ocean Club.

Ongoing Investigation

Law enforcement is combing through witness accounts and CCTV footage in an effort to identify the suspects. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the shooting or the getaway car to come forward.

Puerto Banus remains a sought-after destination for holidaymakers, but the shooting underscores the challenges authorities face in maintaining security in such high-profile areas.
