Bomb Found After Being Thrown at House
Late Sunday night, police were scrambled to Havana Court, north Belfast, after reports a pipe bomb was thrown at a house.
Officers discovered the explosive device hidden under a car. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) described the pipe bomb as “viable” and warned its proximity to a petrol tank made it extremely dangerous.
Residents Forced to Flee as Police Make Area Safe
Authorities evacuated several homes overnight as bomb disposal teams worked to neutralise the device.
PSNI Inspector Curry said: “The item was deemed to be a viable pipe bomb and was made safe before being removed for further examination. If it had exploded under the car, the consequences could have been devastating.”
Motorists and the public were advised to stay clear of the area during the operation. A nearby community centre was opened overnight to support those displaced.
Police Warn of Serious Consequences, Urge Caution
In a statement just before 1am, PSNI confirmed: “Police are at the scene of a security alert in the Havana Court area of north Belfast following the discovery of a suspicious object. Residents are being evacuated, and road users and members of the public are advised to avoid the area.”
Local Reaction
“Who’s car was it? This government keeps secrets just for the sake of it or to hide their incompetence,” commented one concerned local.
