Firefighters Continue Operations at Somerset House Following Major Fire

Firefighters are continuing to monitor Somerset House today, following a major fire that broke out at the historic London landmark on Saturday. The London Fire Brigade (LFB) has confirmed that their Fire Investigation team will return to the site to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the blaze.

The fire, which erupted yesterday, prompted a large emergency response as firefighters worked to bring the flames under control. The incident caused significant disruption, with the area around Somerset House cordoned off as a safety measure.

While the full extent of the damage has yet to be assessed, initial reports suggest that parts of the historic building sustained damage. Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries, and everyone in the building was safely evacuated.

Somerset House, located on the Strand in central London, is a renowned cultural and artistic hub, housing galleries, studios, and offices. It has played a central role in London’s history since its construction in the 18th century.

The cause of the fire remains unknown at this stage, but LFB’s Fire Investigation team is expected to examine the scene in detail over the coming days. Our investigation will focus on determining the source of the fire and understanding how it spread,” the LFB spokesperson added.

Authorities have asked the public to avoid the area while investigations are ongoing. Somerset House representatives have not yet issued a statement regarding the impact of the fire on upcoming events and exhibitions.
