Daredevil Driver Jailed After High-Speed Police Chase in Nottingham
Reckless Ride Ends in Arrest
Waleed Ahmed Chaudhry, 25, gave officers a wild ride in Carlton, Nottingham, refusing to stop, speeding through red lights, and dangerously overtaking on a blind bend. His reckless stunt forced another driver to swerve to avoid a crash as police tried to bring the chase under control.
Stinger Tire Brings Chase to a Halt
The pursuit ended after officers deployed a stinger on Woodthorpe Drive, forcing Chaudhry’s Toyota Yaris to slow and stop. He jumped out and tried to flee on foot but was quickly tackled to the ground and arrested.
Jail and Ban for Repeat Offender
Chaudhry, from Mardling Avenue, Bestwood, later pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving while disqualified, and driving without insurance. At Nottingham Crown Court on 23 November 2022, he was jailed for 12 months and banned from driving for three years.
Police Warn Over Risk to Public Safety
“Chaudhry showed complete disregard for the safety of road users, the public, and officers,” said PC Jonathan Lee of Nottinghamshire Police’s Road Crime Team. “It’s pure luck there wasn’t a serious crash. His driving was some of the worst I’ve ever seen.”
“Thanks to our officers’ skillful handling, a dangerous situation was stopped before it caused injury. This case shows how we continue to crackdown on deadly driving to keep the roads safe.”
