A terrifying crash between two high-speed passenger trains near České Budějovice in the Czech Republic has left at least 42 people injured, authorities confirmed.

Emergency Teams Rush to Scene

The collision happened roughly 100 miles south of Prague. Firefighters and paramedics scrambled to assist victims.

A regional hospital spokeswoman told news agency CTK that five passengers suffered serious injuries and were admitted. The rest suffered minor wounds and were quickly treated on site.

Transport Minister Martin Kupka updated via X that the crash remains under investigation. Early reports suggest one train may have ignored a red signal.

“There are 40 people with light injuries and two with serious injuries,” said Petra Kafkova, an ambulance service spokeswoman.

Rail operator spokesperson Martin Kavka confirmed all passengers were safely evacuated but declined to comment on the cause pending inquiry.

Train services between České Budějovice and Plzeň remain suspended, with no expected resumption until the afternoon.
