Vitalie Tanga, a man described as “homophobic,” has been handed a life sentence for the savage beating and subsequent death of Alfred Mattox, a gay man, during a “vodka-fuelled” assault in the victim’s own home. The tragic incident occurred when Mr Mattox and his friends celebrated VE Day in Wolverhampton.

During the trial, prosecutors argued that Tanga unleashed a barrage of “explosive violence” on Mr. Mattox due to his sexual orientation. Tanga claimed that he was provoked by an alleged unwanted sexual advance from the victim, asserting that he wanted to “show him he was a man.
