A significant fire has broken out at a scrap recycling centre in the Northam area of Southampton, involving electrical waste, sending thick smoke billowing into the surrounding area.
Emergency services, including crews from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, are currently battling the blaze that erupted earlier this morning. Residents, particularly those living to the east of the fire, have been issued an urgent warning to keep their windows and doors closed due to concerns about potentially hazardous smoke.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have also advised motorists to avoid the area due to road closures and heavy smoke.
Authorities continue to monitor the air quality and are advising residents to follow official guidance closely.
