Major Incident declared in Leicester following an explosion

BREAKING – Police and fire service are respond to ‘major incident’ in Leicester, after reports of explosion. It is understood that the location was being used a polish shop. Eight fire appliances and other support vehicles have been sent to scene along with a number of resources from East Midlands ambulance service. Police have advised the public to avoid the area. The local hospital have implemented their major incident plan to treat involved following what is understood to be a gas explosion. A police spokesman said”There has been a major incident on Hinckley Road, Leicester. All emergency services are currently dealing with this. Carlisle Street and part of Hinckley Road have been closed Please avoid the area” A Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: “This is a search and rescue at the moment. “It is unknown if people are injured or trapped.” The affected property was a two floor building with a loft conversion that had suffered a “pancake collapse”, she added
