A 42-year-old man has been locked up for over four years after launching a terrifying campaign of abuse against a woman in Rushden. Mohammed Miah, who has no fixed address, was sentenced to four years and one month in prison at Northampton Crown Court on November 4.
He was also slapped with a five-year restraining order banning any contact with the victim except through professional third parties.
Shocking Abuse in Front of Children
The court heard that between April 21 and June 14 this year, Miah repeatedly assaulted the woman at her home, often in front of her children. On one chilling occasion, he put both hands around her throat, strangling her.
During a chilling phone call, Miah threatened to cause serious facial injury to force his own demands. Despite her pleas to stop, he bombarded her with messages and calls nonstop.
Violence Threats Spiral Out of Control
- On June 13, after she ignored spam calls, Miah called repeatedly, threatening violence against her and her family.
- He also made a chilling threat to kill her.
- The next day, he called her more than 50 times.
- He then spotted her driving to her parents’ home with her children and mum and aggressively approached their car.
- When she refused to unlock the door, Miah banged on it, shouting abuse.
Arrest and Charges
Shortly after, Northamptonshire Police arrested Miah and found a utility knife in his vehicle. He now faces multiple charges:
- Controlling and coercive behaviour
- Stalking with fear of violence
- Assault causing actual bodily harm
- Intentional strangulation
- Possession of a knife in public
Justice has caught up with Miah, ensuring he cannot harm the victim again any time soon.
