A person has been taken to hospital following a fire at a block of flats on Wolseley Street in Southwark on Monday night (September 9). The blaze affected a small section of a three-room flat, prompting an emergency response from firefighters and paramedics.
Two individuals were treated at the scene, with one being transported to the hospital for further care. The fire is believed to have been accidental, caused by the unsafe use of candles.
The LFB also advised residents to consider using battery-powered, flameless LED candles as a safer alternative to traditional candles. These flameless candles are not only safer but offer better value for money as they last significantly longer.
For those who continue to use traditional candles, the Brigade urged caution: “Ensure you place them in a heat-resistant holder on a stable surface, away from flammable materials, and never leave them unattended, especially around children and pets.
The fire service also recommended residents use the Brigade’s online Home Fire Safety Checker, which offers tailored advice to reduce fire risks at home.
No further details have been released about the condition of the individual taken to the hospital, but the situation is under investigation.
