Scotland’s youth are gearing up for the much-anticipated Youth Climate Summit, set to take place on October 21, 2023, in Edinburgh. The event, hosted by the 2050 Climate Group, aims to provide a platform for 18-35 year olds to connect with experts, campaigners, and fellow young people involved in Scotland’s climate movement.

The fifth edition of the Youth Climate Summit, aptly named “A Moment for a Movement,” promises to be a thought-provoking and engaging experience. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in various sessions, including panel discussions, guest speaker presentations, interactive workshops, and exhibitions.

The Summit will cover a wide range of climate change and sustainability topics, such as the green economy, intersectionality, eco-anxiety, and campaigning. Esteemed speakers, including Laura Young, an award-winning activist and environmental scientist, Lucy Geoghegan, Head of Net Zero Economy and Carbon Markets, and Cornell Hanxomphou, Rights Officer at the Environmental Rights Centre Scotland, will grace the stage. The keynote address will be delivered by Màiri McAllan, the Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Net Zero, and Just Transition.

This year’s event will be held at Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh from 10:00 to 17:00 BST. It is free and open to all young people aged 18-35 from across Scotland and beyond.

Laura Curtis-Moss, Director at the 2050 Climate Group, expressed her excitement about the upcoming summit, stating, “We are thrilled to once again be welcoming hundreds of young people from across the country to Scotland’s Youth Climate Summit. It is now more important than ever that we take action on climate change. We hope that participants will leave the Summit feeling inspired, connected, and energised to continue to build momentum and drive the climate movement forward.”

Registration is now open on Eventbrite, and the 2050 Climate Group has set up a participation fund to help remove barriers to attendance. For those unable to attend in person, select keynote speakers and sessions will be streamed online. Further information is available on the 2050 Climate Group’s website, 2050.scot, or by contacting them at [email protected]. The Youth Climate Summit promises to be an event that will empower Scotland’s young leaders to make a lasting impact in the fight against climate change.
