A heartfelt appeal is circulating across social media as the search continues for the owner of a lost dog found on the roadside in East London. The dog, now affectionately named Hank, was picked up by a concerned passer-by but remains unclaimed three days later.
The Good Samaritan who found Hank says he appears to be deeply unsettled and depressed, and is now refusing to eat. Despite a visit to the vet, no microchip was found, leaving few leads to trace the dog’s rightful home.
“It’s now the third day and I haven’t found the owners of this guy,” the finder wrote in a widely shared post. “He’s really depressed, not eating. We took him to the vet — he’s not chipped. Please help me bump this post so I can find the owner.”

A Community Effort to Reunite Hank
The post has since gained traction online, with local residents in East London resharing the appeal in hopes of reconnecting Hank with his family. Many commenters have offered advice, suggested contacting local shelters and pet rescue groups, and expressed concern for the dog’s welfare.
Some have even volunteered temporary care or offered food and comfort items while Hank waits to be reunited with his owner.
No Identification, No Chip
Without a collar tag or microchip, the search has become increasingly difficult. Vets and animal welfare organisations continue to emphasise the importance of microchipping pets to prevent heartbreaking situations like this one.
How You Can Help
If you recognise Hank or believe you may know who his owners are, you’re urged to get in touch via the original social media post or report sightings to local animal rescue organisations. Anyone missing a dog in the East London area should also contact nearby vets, dog wardens, and animal shelters as soon as possible.
In the meantime, the kind-hearted individual who rescued Hank continues to care for him while hoping for a happy reunion.
“He’s clearly someone’s loved pet — we just want to get him home.”
