A Newbury taxi driver has been locked up for six years after a vicious knife attack on his wife, sparked by delusions of a fake affair with a teenager.
Psychotic Delusions Led to Violence
Mehmet Balikci, 57, was sentenced at Reading crown-court/" title="Crown Court" rel="nofollow">Crown Court on Tuesday, November 11. Jurors found him guilty back in January of actual bodily harm, common assault, and making threats to kill.
Balikci, married to Rachel Parry-Balikci for 23 years, became obsessed with an invented story about his wife cheating on him. During the trial, Mrs Parry-Balikci told the court how her husband constantly grilled her, desperate for a confession.
Chilling Threat with Knife to Neck
“If you don’t tell me the truth, I’ll kill you,” Balikci warned as he pressed a knife to his wife’s throat, pulling her head back to expose her neck.
Sentence and Restrictions
Balikci will serve up to half of his six-year sentence behind bars. He also faces an indefinite restraining order banning any contact with his wife.
