Two Arrested after 500k Cash find at Channel Tunnel

Two men from Liverpool were arrested for suspected money laundering after £500,000 was found hidden in a van, 1pm Friday. An investigation has been launched after cash believed to total about £500,000 was found in a secret compartment of a van at the Channel Tunnel. Officers seized the money, which consisted of both Euros and pounds sterling, after searching the white Mercedes Sprinter shortly before 1pm on Friday 21 July 2017. Two men aged 29 and 39, both from Liverpool, were arrested on suspicion of money laundering but have since been released from custody pending further enquiries. Significant Detective Inspector Annie Clayton of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate is leading the investigation. She said: ‘This is a significant seizure of cash that demonstrates our determination and commitment to ensure crime does not pay. ‘We are actively investigating the circumstances of this discovery while continuing to disrupt the ability of organised groups to profit from crime.’
