A young woman has been arrested and bailed after allegedly ploughing her car into crowds of revellers in Manchester city centre in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Chaos on Deansgate: BMW Swerves Through Crowds
Police were called to Deansgate around 5am following reports of chaos caused by a grey BMW driving erratically through busy streets packed with festive crowds. Videos shared on social media show the car zigzagging along the wrong side of the road, narrowly missing pedestrians. One person reportedly fell after the vehicle sped past.
Fighting Breaks Out as Vehicle Crashes into Roadworks Barrier
The car then made a sharp U-turn before speeding through a red light at the Bridge Street junction. A fight broke out nearby as several men attempted to open the car door. The vehicle rammed a roadworks barrier and screeched off at pace, with onlookers shouting warnings like “He’s going to kill someone!” and “Get out of the way!”
Police Update: Injured Man Hospitalised; Woman Arrested
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson confirmed a 25-year-old man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. An 18-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit assault and has since been released on bail.
“Shortly after 5am we were called to reports of a disturbance on South King Street in Manchester city centre,” said GMP. “Emergency services attended, and a 25-year-old man was taken to hospital with injuries which are not life-threatening.”

This unsettling event comes just as another driver accused of ploughing into crowds at Liverpool’s Premier League victory parade appeared in court this week.
