The victim, a 44 year old male and was a man known to the defendant, went to a convenience shop on Stoke Bridge. After he walked out of the shop to walk home to his home address he was attacked by Ciuraru from behind and who was wielding a metre long metal pole.  The victim was hit twice in the head and on his body before Ciuraru dropped the pole and ran back over Stoke Bridge into town. The victim sustained serious head injuries that required 12 stitches to the head and treatment in hospital. Following police enquiries Ciuraru was arrested on 7 January this year after initially fleeing the country to Germany and was subsequently charged.

DC Jack Evans of Ipswich CID said: “This was an extremely aggressive and cowardly attack by Ciuraru on someone he knew. It was a busy time of day with vehicles driving past and numerous members of public witnessing the attack. I’d like to thank the members of the public who came to the victim’s aid at the time and who were willing to provide crucial evidence as witnesses.”
