Man Jailed for Brutal Metal Pole Attack in Ipswich
Mihaita Ciuraru, 38, from St John’s Road in Ipswich, was sentenced to 40 months in prison at Ipswich Crown Court today (Tuesday 7 March). He pleaded guilty to wounding with intent following a vicious assault last July.
Shocking Bludgeoning Outside Convenience Store
The attack happened at around 6.30pm on 20 July 2022 near a convenience shop on Stoke Bridge. The victim, a 44-year-old man known to Ciuraru, was on his way home when he was struck from behind with a metre-long metal pole.
- Victim hit twice in the head and once on the body
- Suffered serious head injuries requiring 12 stitches and hospital treatment
- Ciuraru fled the scene back over Stoke Bridge into town
After the attack, Ciuraru fled the country, heading to Germany. He was arrested on 7 January 2023 following police investigations.
Cowardly Attack Shocks Ipswich Community
“This was an extremely aggressive and cowardly attack by Ciuraru on someone he knew,” said DC Jack Evans of Ipswich CID. “It was a busy time with vehicles driving past and many witnesses. I thank the members of the public who helped the victim and provided crucial evidence.”
Ciuraru now faces jail time for a brutal assault caught on the streets of Ipswich. The community hopes this sentencing sends a strong message against violent crime.
