Kent Police was called to an address in Mercury Close on Tuesday 5 September 2023, where officers found a 71-year-old man who was confirmed deceased at the scene.
An investigation was commenced by detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate and later that day a man was arrested.
On the evening of Wednesday 6 September, the Crown Prosecution Service authorised a charge of murder against Simon Brown, of King George Road, Chatham.
The 27-year-old was remanded in custody to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on the following day.
