Trainee Cop Booted After Sexual Assault Conviction

Christopher Brown, a trainee detective constable with the Central North Basic Command Unit, was sacked without warning on Tuesday, 11 April. The panel ruled his behaviour breached professional standards due to ‘discreditable conduct’.

Guilty of Assaulting Female Colleague

Brown was handed a 12-month community order at Southwark Crown Court on 9 March. He had pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a female colleague while off-duty at a London bar back in December 2021.

Police first got wind of the assault on 9 December 2021. Brown was interviewed under caution later that month and formally charged nearly a year later, on 21 November 2022.

Police Boss Condemns Brown’s Actions

Chief Superintendent Andy Carter said: “Brown’s behaviour was completely unacceptable and his actions undermine the honest majority of our officers who are dedicated to protecting the public.

It is quite right that he has been swiftly dismissed from the Met following the conclusion of court proceedings.

We are determined to win back the trust of the communities we serve. We know this isn’t something that will be resolved overnight, but I hope the outcome of this investigation demonstrates that we are heading in the right direction.”

Added to Barred List – No Going Back for Brown

Brown will now be added to the Barred List maintained by the College of Policing. That means he can never work again for any police service, local policing bodies, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary, or Fire and Rescue Services.

Along with his community order, Brown was sentenced to 40 hours on a rehabilitation programme and 200 hours unpaid work. He must also pay £580 in court costs.
